Usually, the width measures anywhere from 20 to 24 feet and the depth measures from 22 to 24 feet. In this way, two cars could be parked next to each other with a little extra space provided for some garage storage.
Common dimensions:
- 20 x 22 feet (fits two cars but leaves limited storage space)
- 22 x 24 feet (provides enough space for cars and extra storage or a workbench)
- 24 x 24 feet (comfortable fit with lots of room to spare)
2 and a Half Car Garage Dimensions
Common dimensions:
- Standard Size: 26 feet wide, 20 feet deep.
- Great for an extra vehicle or a workshop area.
- Additional Sizes: 26×25, 26×30, 28×30.
3 Car Garage Dimensions
For a 3 car garage, you will be looking at dimensions most likely to be from 30 to 36 feet wide and from 22 to 24 feet deep. This size could hold three cars side by side, or one of the bays could be used for storage, for a workshop, or even a small fitting room.
Common dimensions:
- 30 x 22 feet (fits three cars, tight on storage)
- 32 x 24 feet (more comfortable fit with extra room for storage or hobbies)
- 36 x 24 feet (plenty of space for cars and storage, possibly a small work area)
4 Car Garage Dimensions
4 car garage is quite an ideal option, typically plus or minus 40 to 44 feet wide and 22 to 24 feet deep. Such arrangement will suit a bigger family or one fond of cars. There will be enough space not only to fit four cars but enough storage and tools even for a workshop.
Common dimensions:
- 40 x 22 feet (fits four cars, but storage will be limited)
- 44 x 24 feet (ample room for cars, storage, and even a workspace)
Typical Garage Door Dimensions
The average height for garage doors is seven to eight feet. The height, often known as the length, is the distance between the threshold and the top of the door. For all garage sizes, door lengths are generally the same.
- Standard height: 7 to 8 feet.
- Single Car: 8 to 10 feet wide.
- Two Car: Two doors (8–10 feet each) or one wide door (12–16 feet).
- Three Car: One door (8–10 feet) and one wide door (12–16 feet).
- Four Car: Two wide doors (12–16 feet each).
Other Considerations
- Ceiling Height: Regular garages have 8 to 9-foot ceiling heights, however if you want to accommodate taller vehicles such as trucks or SUVs, you would require a minimum ceiling height of 10 feet.
- Driveway Space: Ensure that there are adequate driveway space in front of the garage especially in situations where the garage is a 3 or 4-car one.
It is not only the number of vehicles that determines the size of the garage but also how the space in question is intended to be used. A garage can be more than just a parking spot.
